Animal Rights Group Invokes Biblical Commandment

BOSTON (Reuters) - The animal rights group that was forced to pull it's ``Got Beer?'' ad campaign last week will turn to one of the Ten Commandments next week as it urges people in New England to eschew meat.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) plans to post billboards featuring a Moses-like figure, his arms outstretched, and the words ``I said 'Thou shalt not kill' Go vegetarian.''

PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said the Norfolk, Virginia-based group chose to put the billboards up in Rhode Island and Massachusetts because the two states have the highest proportion of Catholics in the country and ``Easter is upon us.''

Last week, PETA pulled its ``Got Beer?'' billboard campaign from college campuses after angry anti-drunk driving activists criticized it as a misguided promotion of underage drinking.

PETA contends that milk cows and their calves suffer on dairy farms. The ``Got Beer?'' campaign was a parody of the dairy industry's familiar ``Got Milk?'' ads.

EDITORIAL

This one is funny, and there is soooo much to say about it!  First, lets talk about "Animal Rights".  You might think that the home of the Creation Kids Club would be all for PETA and "Animal Rights".  Wrong!  Now, that does not mean I am for abusing animals or mistreating them... so I'll explain in a minute.

BEER

Okay, this is too easy.  It is irresponsible to advertise beer to underage college students - for ANY reason. Alcohol kills brain cells, destroys families, and causes countless traffic accidents and deaths every year. Getting drunk is bad for adults, teens and children.  I don't need to say much about this. And God is clear about "not being drunk".  Next...

ANIMAL RIGHTS

"Rights" come from an understanding of the Bible and legal decisions in our Constitution.  Here, is a quote from America's Declaration of Independence, 

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Now, this does not cover animals - and shouldn't. Hey, they don't live by them... they can't READ them!  Animals wound, kill and eat other animals - and sometimes humans!  God tells humans that we are in charge of the animals NOT equal to them. 

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.  Genesis 1:28

In conclusion: Animals have no "rights" BUT we should be wise in taking care of what God told us to take care of!  Small difference?  No.  While I share some concerns with PETA, I have strong problems with their use of violence and the desire to change laws protecting animals - over human rights.  Keep in mind - this group has just encouraged underage college students to DRINK BEER!  Enough said.  PETA is bad and the idea of "animal rights" is foolish and dangerous.

THOU SHALT NOT KILL... ANIMALS?

There is a terrible danger to using God's Word to profit yourself. TV shows do it more and more and rock musicians do it all the time. And, yes even some preachers do it!  Don't make the Bible say what you want it to say. Let it speak for itself. I hope you are more careful and you are bothered when you hear your favorite TV, movie or music idol doing it.

Sometimes it is so hard to see that it might seem okay. Take this one for instance: "Thou Shalt not Kill - Go Vegetarian."  Is that one of the Ten Commandments?  No, not really.  The commandment is, "Thou shalt not kill".  That's all!  It is a dangerous thing to ADD or SUBTRACT from God's Word.

IN FACT, God COMMANDED the killing of animals for sacrificing. He tells us in the Old and New Testaments about killing and eating meat - and that it is okay and proper!  In fact, when the Apostle Peter tried to argue with God about eating certain animals - God told him off!  God said that what He calls clean - don't you dare call it unclean!  So from Peter to PETA, I would warn anyone from changing the Bible!

And remember the ninth commandment, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor." or "Don't LIE!"  Even if you care about animals...
